Air duct cleaning

Air ducts become contaminated faster than you might think. Dust, mould, grease and other deposits accumulate unnoticed and affect the air quality in your building. This not only has an impact on the health of occupants or employees, but also on the performance of your ventilation system.

That is why Hamster Cleaning offers a professional air duct cleaning service. With advanced equipment and years of experience, we thoroughly clean your entire ventilation network in accordance with the applicable standards. This ensures clean air, optimal operation and a safe indoor climate.

Why should I have my air ducts cleaned?

Hygiene & air quality

Ventilation provides fresh air, but dirty ducts collect dust and mould. This deteriorates air quality and harms health. Regular maintenance is essential.

Legally required

According to the Royal Decree on Workplaces, dirty air ducts must be cleaned. The EN 15780 standard determines when this is the case. We ensure a residual dust level below 0.3 g/m², for both comfort and process ventilation.

Fire safety

Contaminated extraction ducts increase the risk of fire. Accumulated dust acts as fuel and accelerates the spread of fire. Ventilation systems have previously played a role in fires on multiple occasions.

Energy cost

Contaminated ventilation costs more energy. Dust accumulation forces the system to work harder. Cleaning and maintenance can reduce consumption by 20 to 50%.

Lifespan of your installation

Proper maintenance of ventilation prevents renovation costs. Filter replacement alone is not sufficient; complete maintenance extends the lifespan and preserves quality.

Reduced absenteeism

Poor indoor air affects the wellbeing of employees and contributes to sick building syndrome.

Step 1: Installing inspection hatches

Our technicians start by installing inspection hatches at strategic points in the ventilation system. This gives us optimal access to the ducts.

Step 2: Loosening dirt with brushes

With special rotating brushes, all accumulated dirt is loosened from the duct walls — in both the supply and extraction ducts.

Step 3: Extracting dust with an extraction fan

The loosened dirt is immediately and safely extracted using a powerful industrial extraction installation, ensuring nothing is left behind.

Step 4: Cleaning grilles and valves

All air grilles, valves and visible components are also carefully cleaned using appropriate products.

Step 5: Cleaning the air handling units

Finally, the air handling units are also thoroughly cleaned, ensuring the entire system continues to perform optimally.

FAQ's

Are air ducts required to be cleaned by law?

In Belgium, for professional air ventilation installations, air ducts are required to be cleaned when they are dirty. This is established in the Codex on Well-being at Work (Book III, Article 38), which obliges employers to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.

The European standard EN 15780 provides criteria for when an air duct is considered dirty, based on the amount of dirt (expressed in g/m²). Inspections must take place regularly and cleaning is mandatory as soon as this standard is exceeded.

When is air duct cleaning necessary?

An air duct must be cleaned when the maximum permitted amount of dirt is exceeded.

This is established in the European standard EN 15780, which distinguishes three cleanliness levels. Each level has its own limit for contamination, expressed in grams per square metre (g/m²). As soon as that threshold is exceeded, maintenance is necessary.

Can I prevent dirty air ducts?

Partially. Regularly replacing the filters in the air handling unit is essential to limit contamination. Poorly maintained or clogged filters lose their effectiveness, causing dirt and dust to accumulate more quickly in the ducts.

Although good filtration can prevent a great deal of contamination, it is virtually impossible to completely rule out dirty ducts. Extraction ducts in particular become contaminated quickly, as the air drawn in is often unfiltered.

It is therefore important to inspect air ducts at least annually, so that contamination is detected in good time and larger problems are avoided.
